Happy Birthday Kiddos
July 24, 2010 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

Happy Birthday to Gage and Gavyn. Gage’s birthday was the 13th and Gavyn’s was the 24th. They’re 4 and 2; respectively. We had a party at the house. Allie’s sister and her family were with us, as well as Bob and Rachel and Kim and Ken, and my parents and sister.
We cooked out and rented a big inflatable castle for the kids to jump around on. It was a nice afternoon; though it started storming later that night. My wife’s sister and her family stayed with us until Thursday night, when we went over to visit Allie’s brother’s house. We all went fishing at Raccoon State Park, where Allie managed to catch herself a Sun Fish.

The Bennigan’s near Chapel Hill Mall closed down. There pretty much gone from this area, so I think it had something to do with Corporate miss-management. The building sat vacant for some time, until they put in a new restaurant to take its place. The new restaurant is called “The Brick House Tavern & Tap”. Not knowing anything about it, me and Allie decided to give it a try. We took the kids and looked forward to trying the place out. When we got there, Allie sent me in ahead so that I could get us on the list while she got the kids out of the car. The waitresses were dressed in slutty little hooter-like outfits; short shorts and tops so tight and low cut that they were about to burst. Their little catch line for their buzzers are that they say “here’s your “vibrator””; and the thing says something about “This is for your hand, not for your …”. Bottom line, The Brick House is not for your kiddies and it’s not a family restaurant. Don’t take your kids unless you feel like explaining what the girls have balloons shoved down their shirts. I feel sick for the children proudly displayed with the half-neckid girls on their Facebook page. As a resident of Cuyahoga Falls, I’m sad that they would approve an establishment like this. Especially given how much they touted being responsible for bringing O’Charlie’s to the area. I will be emailing the mayor about this one. We ended up going to Applebee’s instead. The place was sadly bare on a Saturday night. It looks like the Brick House is taking a lot of their business.

The Library was closed on Monday, so I decided for myself that I’d do whatever on Sunday without feeling guilty. We ended up going over my Uncle’s house for a cookout. Allie went shopping with the girls, so it was just me and the kiddies. Gage and Gavyn got to swim in their huge backyard pool, as well as play on their excellent swingset\treehouse. I got to catch up with some relatives, and my parents and sister were there. Following the cookout we headed back to my parents to meet Allie and see the fireworks. We watched them from lawn chairs on the sidewalk. When the fireworks started, my little one asked for daddy. She watched the fireworks from my chest, blanket in hand, shielding her eyes. She peaked through to see them and then cuddled up when she was scared. As a father, there’s NOTHING better than having my little daughter curl up against me, safe in my arms.

Yearly Eye Exam
November 2, 2009 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

I went to the eye doctor for my annual checkup the other day. He checked my eyes over and did the “is it better at 1 or 2, 3 or 4, 5 or 6?” test. I was there for contacts. He mentioned that I had a pretty bad astigmatism, which nobody has ever mentioned before. I usually get chided for wearing my disposable lenses too long, but who doesn’t? Anyways, the lenses he gave me felt a little funny. The doctor said that I just had to get used to wearing them and to let them adjust to the right position. He had me schedule a follow up. It’s my opinion that follow ups, be it an eye doctor or a general doctor, are just a way to get me to pay an extra co-pay and pad their fat wallets. I tried these lenses for a week, but I couldn’t get past how uncomfortable they were. Looking closely at the lenses, I could see to slits in the sides of them. I supposed that was how they did their magic to correct the astigmatism. If you wear contacts, you know how it feels when you rip a lens; that uncomfortable feeling that makes you want to itch your eyeball. That’s how I felt in these lenses. I tried them for a week, but they didn’t feel any better. When I went back the following week, I told the doc that they still felt uncomfortable and that I couldn’t wear them for more than an hour at a time, a problem I’ve never had with other lenses. I’ve been wearing them since I was 12, so I consider myself an expert on contact lenses. I pointed out to the doctor that they had slits in them, he said “no, they’re not slits they’re just lines. All contact lenses have lines”. This response pushed the “bullshit-o-meter” into the red zone. Call me paranoid, but I haven’t trusted eye doctors since once of them said that the little tube in the annoying glaucoma test wouldn’t actually touch my eye, but he still needed to numb it (not the annoying “puff” test, the other one that shoves a tube onto your cornea). Trust me, they were slits, and they were touching my eye, and they were annoying the hell out of me. It felt like I had to constantly adjust them and put drops in my eyes. I eventually said that these wouldn’t do and got a set of regular lenses. These don’t work “as” well, but they’re good enough. It’s my feeling that he just tried to suggest these other lenses and astigmatisms because they were new, and they were not disposables, and I’m sure he gets a bigger cut from selling them. Maybe he gets a bigger “spiff” on them; to use entertainment store lingo. I’m not paranoid, honestly. At least I have contacts and they work pretty well. I’m happy enough. I think I’m going to order a box of the regular lenses.

Family Movie Night

We had a good time this weekend. My mother watched Gavyn while me and Allie spent some quality time with Gage. We took him to Steak n’ Shake for dinner (which ironically has a “kids eat free” special on the weekend …. DING), and then took him to see his first movie at the theater. We saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. It was different than the book, but still had most of the essential ideas and scenes. I bought the book for Gage a while back and had been reading it to him.
We had a good time, and Gage was totally worn out from the experience. He enjoyed the personal attention, and the popcorn.

Gage Turns 3 Today

Happy Birthday Gage …
Gage turns 3 today. I can’t believe he’s already three years old. It’s true that they grow up too fast. I look back on all the little baby pictures. He’s not my little baby any more, but he is my little boy. Back in college, I wondered if I would ever have children. Now, I’ve been blessed with two. I love being a father and its one of the decisions in my life that I would never take back.
There are a lot of things about Gage that I love. I love that he’s out of diapers (thank goodness ;-) ). I love the endearing ways he mispronounces some words (“Thanks you daddy”, “Increbables”, He calls Cameron “Camera”). I love watching him rock himself to sleep, and I love occasionally getting to recover him with blankets at night.
He’s a good boy and I thank God for him every day. I hope that I can continue to be a good father and that I raise him right.

The Smell of Urban Renewel
June 21, 2009 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

The Urban Renewal I’m talking about is my friend Bob’s house, and the smell refers to the geyser of foul smelling raw sewage which poured into his kitchen. A very unfortunate set of circumstances, especially given that his wife is so pregnant, she’s going to pop any day now.
The festivities started last Wednesday. The wonderful people from the city decided to rip a tree out of my friend’s tree lawn (its city property, so I guess they can rip out trees whenever they want to without consulting you. It was apparently hindering people from seeing on the road or something). On Wednesday evening, the geyser erupted in sweet smelly glory; covering his entire kitchen in a pool of wretched puke.
A few days later and a professional cleaning crew later, I found myself ripping vinyl tile from the kitchen floor. By now, the smell was less smelly and the yard was pretty much clean. Unlike some people, my friend is covered to the teeth in home owner’s insurance. He will hopefully be fine, even if the city decides it doesn’t want to own up to its error (an outside company confirmed to Bob that the problem was in the street and not in the lateral or his property).
My friend will probably get a new floor in both his kitchen and his bathroom out of it; though it is a little too much pressure to be having now of all times. Please keep Bob in your prayers.

Almost Walking

I wanted to post these slightly humerous pictures that Allie sent me this evening. I'm working the late shift at work. Allie was putting Gage to bed for his nap. Gavyn was a little upset that she wasn't included. So, she decided to try and climb up the stairs.
Previous attempts at climbing had met with failure, but she's getting stronger and getting closer to walking so I guess this time it worked.

Allie Put In Her Notice
March 25, 2009 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

My wife and I had to make a tough decision yesterday. She’s been having a rough time at work for a while now. It really started to get worse after she was promoted to the Director of Social Services. She’s been working really late, getting home past 7 or 7:30pm, but even when she comes home, she’s had hours of extra work to do. She ends up going to bed later than me. The stress and the lack of sleep were making her physically sick.
She told me last night that she really wanted to quit, things had become that bad. I considered that thoughtfully, and we came to the decision that the stress of the job was just too much for our family. She really supported me through the problems with my last job, so I felt that the right thing to do was stand behind her in this decision.
She gave her notice today. We both felt peace about the decision. She has thirty days to find a new job. We’re really trusting God, that there’s something better waiting and that the situation will work out when it needs to.

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History

I finally became eligible for vacation time at work. With the job hopping, this is the first time I’ve had vacation time in a little over a year. So far, I have two weeks built up; and decided to take the first week of March off.
I had several projects that I wanted to tackle; as well as spend some extra time with the fam. I talked my wife into taking Tuesday off. We packed up the kiddies and headed to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. I remember going there in school as a kid, so I thought Gage might have some fun. Gavyn was a little too young, but I’m sure she enjoyed seeing all the different sights.
We and Gage always joke about dinosaurs, he has a few kiddie books about them (i.e. How to Dinosaurs Say Goodnight). So, I wanted him to get to see them first-hand. Once we got to the museum, he of course saw the planetarium. He was fascinated by the scale model of the moon, as well as the exhibit that shows the night sky during various seasons. Gage also enjoyed the animals that they have on display, particularly the King Cobra.
When we finally got the dinosaur room, Gage saw the skeletons and got a little upset. He decided that he would only enter if Mommy held him, so we switched kiddies and she carried him into the room. We took several pictures near the two largest models, a triceratops and a tyrannosaur I think. I really wanted a picture with him, but as we tried to convince him to jump over to me, he clung to his mother’s coat for ear life. I got a pretty terrible picture with him, before instead getting a nice picture with his sister; Gavyn was all smiles.
We finished up the museum as the kids started getting really tired and decided to head home for nap time. The rest of the pictures are linked to this post.

Introducing Gavyn Isabel Kozick
July 28, 2008 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

Gavyn Isabel Kozick was born Thurday, July 24th at 9:30am. We're very happy to have her join our family. Mommy and baby are doing great. We stayed less than 48 hours in the hospital, it was really nice to come back home and relax. The temperature controls at the hospital were less than comfortable. It's been a while since I've updated my webpage, I havn't been good at that lately. There's just been too much going on lately. Gage is doing really well, he's adjusting to being the oldest child instead of the only child. For the most part, he's doing ok, but he occationally gets bouts of jelousy. He calls Gavyn "his baby" and frequently asks for "his turn" to hold her. I have a new job. I'm working in IT again. My new employer is a lot better than my old one. I really like my boss and I really feel like I fit in a lot more than the old place. So, things are looking a lot better. It's not to not dread going back to work here in a few days.

Time Flies, Or Not
July 3, 2007 by Gjkozick

One of my friends recently made a comment that the last year has gone by fast. I stopped for a second and throught about it. You know what, I think this has been one of the longest years of my life. It seems like my perception of time has really slowed down a bit. Which is good; I wouldn't want to go through life at hyperspeed. Enough of it has gone by already; I want to enjoy the time I have still ahead of me. One of the reasons for this feeling is probably the joys of parent hood. Namely; chronic lack of sleep, chronic fatigue, and chronic sympathetic pregnancy brain. Since Gage was born, I've found that it takes a great deal more effort to concentrate on things. Its a lot harder to juggle multiple tasks without becoming overwhelmed. I dunno if its being a parent that causes it, or my age, or if its merely the tiredness factor. Gage's birthday is next week. We're deep into planning it. We hope to bring together our friends and relatives for a little fun and relaxation. This weekend's main activity was preparing the place for guests. We ordered a dumpster which we filling with all our leftover debris from reworking the kitchen. It was hard work, but not that's another task to check off the list. Attached is a gallery of cute Gage pictures from this week.

Gage's First Haircut

So, we noticed that Gage's hair was getting a little long. Feeling a little uncomfortable doing it herself, Allie took Gage to the hair solon to get his first haircut. He did pretty well. Allie held him most of the time, but he started to get a little sleepy near the end. Hell, I get sleepy when I get mine cut, so I can't blame the little guy. He's been teething a lot lately. His first top tooth finally broke through his gums today. With hope, he should have four teeth come July 13th. In other news, still no word on that thing that I said I couldn't talk about yet. Hoping for good news, but you never know. The Govia twins are continuing to do well at the hospital. I havn't talked to Bob about it in a few days, but the last word was that they could come home at the end of this week. I'm sure the happy parents will be releaved to have their little ones at home finally.

Congradulations go out to Bob and Rachel Govia, some of my dearest friends. They were blessed by thte birth of thier twins, Caroline and Elizabeth (spelling subject to my aweful memory, will update later if necessary). The babies are doing well, but will have to stay in the N.I.C.U. for another week before being allowed to go home. They have a few little health problems, but should be fine in the long run. I had the pleasure of finally meeting them yesterday. I got to hold the older one, Lissa I think, for about fifteen minutes while we visited them. Our prayers go out to Bob and Rachel as they try to transition into their new role as parents. Children are both difficult and rewarding. As for my own family, its been a long week or two. Allie actually got a pay raise, which is the first positive movement in our checkbook in about four years, it was a welcome relief from our ever-red budget. Sadly, some of the happiness was taken away when we learned that we were taking it in the backside by the insurance company again this year. Our health insurance rates went up by something like 20-25%. Gage is continueing to work on learning how to walk. He's getting a little better, but continues to be scared of taking steps on his own. His top four teeth are coming in; we can see the first of them. His bottom two are lonely , they need company. With hope, at least a few of them will be in for his 1st Birthday Party next month. I also have some other things going on, but I can't talk about those yet. Hopefully, if things go my way, I'll have some news to announce in the next week or so, so pray for me.

After taking a week off work to rest and relax, I'm back at the shop. Things went decently well while I was gone. Although, when I came back, we learned that our backup internal dns server had failed. We learned this because the day after I returned, the primary internal dns server failed and our network went down for like twenty minutes. Gage is doing pretty well. We're in the process of planning his first birthday party. It sucks because my sister will be gone on her honeymoon. Oh wellz, I know its her honeymoon, but Gage only has one first birthday. She'll have to celebrate it when she gets back. We're starting to slowely move Gage onto whole milk which, thank God, is less expensive than formula. He's talking a little more, but the biggest changes have been in his mobility. He can crawl anywhere, and the strength of his legs continues to improve. Now he can stand un-aided for short periods of time, grant it he's not happy when he does it, but he can. I think he'll be walking in no time

Moving Day

Today is moving day! Well, not for me personally; but for work. At work, our company actually has two suites here in the goodyear building. To cut costs, they've decided to slim us down to one. This means that office desity has increased, and we all have to move to accomodate the sales people who are moving over from the side we're giving up. I don't necessarily have to do all the moving, but it is my job to take care of all the network connections. If I don't get it all done today, then I have to work on Saturday, so you can imagine my motivation to finish up here. Everything is going good, so I think we're going to make that target. On a side note, I think that my vacation time should be approved as well. Counting memorial day, I should have a week off; which will be nice for destressing, as well as getting over this sinus infection.

I Need A Vacation
May 10, 2007 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

So this was an interesting week. My boss, Steve, went on vacation for about a week. That means that I had to keep work running solo while he was gone. On Saturday, I got sick, and got progressively worse. By Monday, I felt so bad that I would have taken time off if Steve had not been on vacation. I've decided that, as soon as I am able, I'm going to take about 3 of my vacation days to rest up. Gage is doing well, he turns 10 mos. this weekend. This means that the preparations for his first birthday are underway. He's talking more, and learning to walk. He's started to climb up on furniture and practice his balance. I have no doubt that he'll be walking by July. He's a cute boy, and I always enjoy seeing his big smile when I walk through the door at night. A few possibilities have come across my lap in the last few weeks. Hopefuly, they will turn into something for me. I'm thanking and praying hard about them. Please join me in that effort. I'll let you know if something comes up.

Now Packaged With New Writer's Block
March 2, 2007 by Gjkozick

I’m having some issues with chapter 3 of my latest story. I have a battle scene which have written and re-written three times. It still lacks something that I can’t explain. Every time I finish and read it, I’m unsatisfied with the flow or the realism of the chapter. I have, otherwise, managed to re-write the first two chapters and the introduction. I’ve altered some grammar and changed the plot slightly to reflect a slightly different introduction for the second of the story’s two main characters. Actually … writing this just now has given me a new idea. I’ll have to play with it a little and see if it turns into something. Arrg, writters block is soooooo annoying.
In other life news, Kim and Ken Bell, close friends of ours, had their son two days ago. They named him Gunnar Robert. He was born at 5 lbs. 4oz. Gage will turn 8 months in a few days. We’ve begun to think about our plans for his first birthday. You KNOW we’re going to spoil him. We’re happy that another member of his little posse has been born.
Other than that, I’m still in the same job. I’m still trying to balance work, gaming, and writing. Life is hectic. It goes up and down. I’m looking forward to more little kiddies, but I’m going to need a big raise before we can afford a second child. Who knows when that will happen, and now that we have a second car payment, it doesn’t look like the gym membership will work out either.

Gage is Two Months Old
September 12, 2006 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

Gage is now two months old. I’m amazed by how fast he is growing. He went for his two-month doctor’s appointment today. The little piggy has grown more than a pound in the last week! He’s now up to 10 lbs. 12 oz. He’s a lot bigger and more filled out than the tiny little skinny boy we brought home from the hospital.
He’s starting to get a lot more alert and responsive. Gage is finally smiling on a regular basis at home. It’s always a joy to see that little smile. He giggles, and coos, and of course still cries when he’s hungry. His personality is beginning to develop more, as now he can show more emotion than the “hey I’m hungry feed me now” cry. Here are a few examples:
[i0] [i1]
He still isn’t quite sleeping through the night. He wakes up between one and three times a night to feed, depending on how he’s feeling. So, both Allie and I are always running on little sleep. He’s definitely getting better at entertaining himself. But, until then, while he’s awake, caring for him consumes the entire attention of at least one of us.
We’ve had to make changes to our routines and our lives. Sometimes one or both of us get frustrated with things, responsibilities, and the things that we just don’t have time for right now. We’re doing our best, and know that eventually, he’ll be able to entertain himself for periods of time.
Allie’s back to work now. She’s working 4 days a week for the time being; one more than we would hope her to work. I know that it’s frustrating for her to be away from Gage, but I’m glad that, in the long run, she can look back and see that she is accomplishing other things in life than mothering 24-7.
Take it easy, and check back soon for more updates.

One Month Birthday
August 11, 2006 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

Gage turned a month old yesterday. We went and got his first pictures. It’s hard to say no to such a cute face; otherwise we would have spent a little less. My son is worth splurging on occasionally; better spending it on him than me.
He’s still not sleeping through the night and had gas issues last night. It’s really hard to run on only a few hours of sleep. However; I can say that I’m mostly a wimp and my wife does more than me. I try to be the best daddy I can, but mommy is best no matter what. I love her more for how good a mother she is.
Being a father is a big transition. I don’t think that anyone who is not in this position can understand. It’s weird being the only father among my group of friends; I’d feel worse about it, but I know that things will change in the near future. Some of my friends have children on the way, others will soon. Hurry up guys; my little man needs his crew!
Soon, hopefully, they’ll understand everything I’m going through. Hopefully also, we’ll still find some way to hang out despite being parents now. My biggest fear is to grow up old and lonely and loose touch with my friends.
Bob is moving closer soon; hopefully that will make hanging out easier. I’m sure if we were both parents and still further away, we wouldn’t have as much time to hang out. Maybe even some of m other friends will settle down nearby. Cuyahoga Falls is a great city to raise a family .

Announcing the Birth of Gage Aiden Kozick
August 7, 2006 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

It’s been almost a month since Gage’s birth. He’s doing well and we’ve experienced a few baby firsts; his first doctor’s appointment and bath. I’m anxiously awaiting his first smile. He’s smiled a few times so far, but they were involuntary or while he was sleeping. I’m looking forward to when he’ll be able to do that at will.
Fatherhood is a large burden. It’s taken some time to adjust; certainly to the fact that I’m understandably sleep deprived. Over all he’s a good, cute baby. He doesn’t cry too much and he is usually in a good mood. His awake time has started to increase a little too.
Now, I’m back to work and Allie has to care for him on her own. I wish I could be more help right now; however that’s not possible. Soon, she’ll return to work, and we’ll have to rely on childcare 3 days a week. It’s kind of hard leaving the house every morning, and I’m sure it will be even harder to know that a stranger will be watching over my little guy for eight hours.
Hopefully I’ll get over it.

Paternal Inequality
July 11, 2006 by Gjkozick
Home // Family

Things are getting closer. We’re within a month of the baby arriving. By this time next month, I should have my son in my arms; finally understanding that bond between a parent and a child.
Sorry I don’t write as much about politics anymore. Politics seems to be the SSDD right now; which makes it rather boring to me. I’ll try to catch back up on the technology though. There’s a lot of cool stuff on the horizon, especially in the world of PC’s, I just don’t keep track with it as much as I used to.
Now that Gage is on his way, I sat down with work to discuss time off. I don’t know if anyone from work actually reads my site (I bet my family and friends don’t really check it out on a regular basis), but I’m going to say this anyways, I don’t think its anything that could or should endanger my employment.
So, I sat down with HR and asked them about my vacation time, something to the form of, “When I have my baby am I just expected to take whatever vacation I have left, or does the company provide anything extra?” A rather common question you might think; but here was the response, “What? Normally it’s the woman standing here saying that, I can’t recall any men asking for more time off. I can understand them, but why do you need it?”
Now this response kind of incensed me; by that I mean it pissed me off. I mentally calmed myself down and tried to expel the pungent fumes of sexism, quietly said “yes mame,” and left.
I know I’m not doing the physical birth or carrying of the child, but to assume that it’s not as much of an impact on my life is laughable. My life is being changed too, not just my wife’s. For them to assume such is an outdated sexist concept. I was hurt quite a bit. Being a parent is the gravest and most important of responsibilities, and among the most life-changing decisions in all of existence. Fathers need their time to relax and adapt too.
The roles of woman have “evolved” in the workplace to the point where woman are demanding and mostly receiving the same treatment as men. However; when it comes to topics of the family, men are not afforded those same concerns and protections.
Overcompensation != Equality
Nuff said! Comment if you care.

It's Finally Done

W00t W00t, I’ve had two major loads lifted off my shoulders this weekend. First, in Warcraft has called it quits. We’re joining a better, further guild; and don’t have to worry about the idiots who had infested our guild. Bye bye management burden. Secondly, with a lot of help from My Mom, Dad, Wife, and Ken and Kim Bell, we’ve managed to paint our kitchen and re-install the top cabinets. It’s a miracle; there’s storage room in my kitchen again! I haven’t had a functional kitchen for months.
Now that the kitchen is done, Gage can be born. That was the one thing Allie said MUST be done by the time he’s born; and it’s done. So little guy, you can come whenever you want now. If he decides to arrive on-time, we have about 5 weeks to wait. However, even then he has a good chance of coming as early as 2 weeks from now. I can’t wait. I’m very much looking forward to being a Father. At first, I was a little nervous; but I’ve had 9 months to get used to the idea. It’s time to take the next step in life, and I think I’ll do a good job.
Lastly, we’re looking forward to the July 4th weekend. Unfortunately, it’s not really a weekend; it’s a Tuesday. The Company didn’t give me the day off, so I’m stuck here at work on Monday. I think me and Allie will be hanging out with Bob and Rachel Govia; and maybe other people; which should be really fun. I really don’t like to hang with the relatives because of all the smoking. We have a little one to think about. Anyways, enjoy your time off (especially if your Brian and your playing hooky today); see you later on this week.

Welcome back! I’m guilty of not updating my website for a REALLY long time. Ok, so it was like a year. Well, I’ve refreshed my page a little. It’s running off some newer tech under the hood. How’s everybody been? It’s been a few crazy months here. If you haven’t heard, Allie is pregnant. By now, she’s about 8 months pregnant, and it’s a Boy. So, about 9 or 10 weeks from now, the first Kozick man-child will be born.
It’s been a relatively normal pregnancy so far. Allie’s had to deal with being pretty sick, and having the worst of the morning sickness hasn’t helped a lot. We’re still working on the kitchen, but the baby’s room is just about done. His crib should be arriving soon. Hopefully he will decide to wait a little more before making his appearance.
That’s all for now, talk to you later.

There’s been a lot going on this month. I’ve officially become an adult. My 25th birthday was this past week. We had a bunch on friends over, and had some fun. Most of us played Warcraft downstairs. The wives were around too. I think that everyone had a great time. The new pool table went over well also. I really can’t wait to play on it more. My parents said that they expected me to get a ping pong table. While I think that ping pong is fun, pool is a lot cooler. My best friend Bob got me an adjustable length pool stick; many thanks to him. Secondly, it was me and Allie’s 2nd wedding anniversary. We took Tuesday off to rest, relax, and spend time with each other. She left her job a little while ago. They weren’t treating her well enough. She hasn’t been able to find another job yet, so we’re flying on a single income for a while. Hope everyone is having a good week, and take it easy.

It’s been an interesting week. For those of you who don’t know, we’ve added another member to our family. We picked up little Toby from the breeder this past week. He’s a 10 week old cream Chihuahua puppy. At first, he was pretty sleepy and docile. However, now that he’s getting older and growing, he’s become a little ball of energy, chewing on everything in sight, and sadly peeing on the floor. Next comes the fun of potty training him. Thankfully, Dingus seems to have taken pretty well to him. He occasionally gets annoyed or jealous, but for the most part he treats Toby ok. Dingus is a good dog. Toby has finally started to sleep through the night …. Thank goodness. He has a good set of lungs. At first, he cried until late, and woke up early at around 3am. He’s sleeping, and he’s begun to pee on his puppy pad. Thinks are going pretty well on that front. My job’s going pretty well. Things are stable enough. However Allie is having problems. We’re afraid she might not be able to stay there much longer if they continue to treat her the way that they do. Please be praying and thinking about her. The basement is coming along well. I haven’t had as much time to work on it as before, mostly because of the puppy. However, it should be finished pretty quickly. Be looking for details on the next KozLAN LAN party!

Greetings from Ohio once again! Me and Allie have returned from vacation. It was a long drive. We went to visit Allie’s sister near Milwaukee Wisconsin. The drive was somewhere around 9 hours, including all the traffic near Chicago. We also took Allie’s brother and his fiancé. Eight people piled into any one house (except maybe a mansion) is a lot of people. It was nice to see Elizabeth and her family though. It was the first time I got to meet her husband Bill and their daughter Anna. There wasn’t all that much to do, being it a small town; but we really were just looking to rest and relax anyways. We had fun hanging out and relaxing. We also got some nice pictures, which I will post shortly. When we got back, our house was still there (though the eye sore two houses down was destroyed while we were gone though. That place was so bad it was bringing down out property value. Not to mention people stopping in front of it with almost no warning). I guess that’s a good thing. We picked up Dingus from my parents and settled back in. I returned to work on Wednesday, but Allie was lucky enough to get an entire week off. She won’t be going back to work until Monday. I at least only have a three day week (which by this time is almost over). My next task is to finish the basement and get my servers in order. I’ve been looking into some software I think I’d suggest to anyone. Openfiler is an Open Source NAS System. It runs on Linux, but has an excellent web interface. I’m in the process of deciding what I can do with it.

The Longest Weekend

I don't know about you, but I've had a hell of a weekend. Actually, it feels like I never had one. Here at work, we had a main server die, so I had to use most of my weekend, including time I should have been sleeping to fix the problem. Even after fixing things, I've been working all week to clean up the bugs. As a result, I'm pretty wiped out, but only got a few hours of catch up sleep because of the extra problems.
On a good note, we're leaving on vacation next weekend. We're going to visit Allie's sister. So, I'll get 5 days off to relax (well, part of it will be driving) and repair. It probably won't be enough, but I can't really take off too much more, I don't really get that much vacation.
Allie's not feeling well. She's been having migrane problems. The doctor is trying to figure out what's wrong. She had to have a CAT scan this past week. They injected her with dye stuff which didn't really feel all that good. Please be thinking about her.
All right, I'll let you get back to your day. Take it easy and keep it real.

Raise Hands In Protest

I have been the biggest supporter of my new city, Cuyahoga Falls; that is until this morning. Let me preface this by saying, I know city codes exist for a reason. Many of you know I’m working on finishing my basement. Today, a heavy blow was laid against the project by our very own building department. I took the electrical test, administered by Mr. Bell, who’s actually the father of one of my good friends; so I need to try to keep this impersonal. Suffice it to say after a week or so of studying, I failed the test with a 52%.; which is only the first of a chain of supreme suckitude which transpired today. What bugs me is the reason I failed. I failed after getting from a bunch of questions which related to kitchen and appliance wiring. This seems completely deplorable to me. All I need to do is install a few little outlets for normal electrical devices. I don’t need to know about sinks and dishwashers! All I need to know is how to install a normal electrical outlet without electrocuting myself. This test had nothing to do with basement wiring! Cuyahoga Falls has swooped down and crashed upon the dream that is the Ultimate Koz-Lan pad. I urge you to join me in protest over this policy. The result is: I now have to get a contractor, which will cost as much as the rest of the project combined (nearly $500 if you’re counting). On a slightly happier note, we purchased a new car last night. Kim’s brother sold us a 2003 Saturn VUE. It will be replacing Allie’s dying 1997 Neon. Unfortunately, my 1999 Neon also died today. That’s two cars dying in the same week, in the same city. That’s right, you heard it hear first, Salem is cursed. Don’t go there if you like your car! He have to pay $67 just to get the thing looked at by a dealer (yes the dealer, there’s no other mechanics around). There will be more on that situation later. I hope that your day is going better than mine.

Car Trouble

First off, a shout out to my mates Brian and Ken; Brian turned 25 and Ken turned 24. It’s been a wonderful week, to put it mildly. This week, Allie’s car broke down. Turned out it was a bad fuel pump. After labor, that ended up costing us almost $500. Definitely not fun, but I guess that emergency money is there for a reason; although I’d rather not have to spend it. So, we’re either going to keep the car as is, or trade it in for a newer one. Our favorite potential so far is a little BMW convertible. It’s probably sold by now though … we’ll see. Dingus is … well Dingus. Our little ball of energy never ceases to run around the house, get his hair everywhere, and continually chase his tail. The silly little guy decided to chew through his harness, which means we need to get him a new one. About a week back we had our first “escape attempt”. Dingus pulled his leash out of my hand, forcing me to chase him down the road, given my leg problems … this wasn’t exactly fun. He’s very trying, but also very cute; so we forgive him. We’re trying our best to stay sane through getting our house cleaned up; we still haven’t completely unpacked, and it’s been a few months since the move (pictures of our house are in the Photo Album section). Sometimes it’s hard to balance work, cleaning up, and home improvements. I guess that’s what it means to be an Adult. Thanks for dropping by, and have a pleasant afternoon!

Dingus !!!

It’s been a crazy week, to say the least. Dingus, our new Miniature Pinscher is quite a handful. He’s got plenty of energy and then some. I’ll try to post a picture. He’s so cute; but he has an attitude to match a dog three times his size. I’ve come to the conclusion that he’s very head strong. He doesn’t like to take crap from anyone, no matter how much bigger they are. He doesn’t respond well to other people who try to exert their dominance over him. A good example is my friends. Several of my friends attempted to approach him using authority (i.e. Fear me dog, you will listen to me). That didn’t work too well; ending in a lot of barking. My friend Cameron on the other hand, walked up to him with the closed fist and just stood there. Dingus barked for a little while, but eventually figured out that it would do him no good and stopped. Allie’s been having some migraine issues again; which doesn’t help with the added work stress we’ve both had lately. It was just a bad week. She has been intently reading the new Harry Potter book. She’s way ahead of me now. The rest of it must be pretty interesting. We’ll see if my questions are answered. Lastly, I’m pleased to announce that the dish is gone. Cameron, whose now a tech at Time Warner installed digital cable for me. It’s pretty nice stuff. So if you are in the market for cable, drop him a line at Cameron. Thanks for dropping by, make sure to return again soon!

I Need A Day Off

It’s been a decent week I think. The big thing is that the basement is now ready for drywall. I’m looking forward to hitting that hard this weekend. If you’re free and feel like pitching in, drop me a line via email (try out the contact page); I’m sure we could use the help. I’ve had an easier work week, unfortunately, Allie’s was a little harder: plus she was on call. They had a couple uncool situations develop into a full-fledged storm. Luckily it wasn’t directly her fault. So if you end up talking to my wife, give her a virtual hug. After getting near 30 pages on Friday, things at work for me settled down for the rest of the weekend. I wasn’t technically on call, so I wouldn’t have had to go in unless my Boss couldn’t make it. It turns out our Load Balancer was acting up. We have some really cool stuff at work, which I probably will never be able to by for myself. However, it seems like it requires constant maintenance to work correctly. I can’t wait until they develop and OS that you can turn on and then forget about. Microsoft hasn’t gotten Windows that good yet, and I’m not holding my breath. On another front, Dingus is doing much better. Thanks to the water bottle, he was able to play with my sister’s dog without trying to maul her. Next step, maybe he can play with Cider, Bob and Rachel’s dog. He’s been a good boy this week. Nothing much else going on, people are going back to school; Cameron and Ken to College; Bob to Law School. In some ways I miss college, like all-night weekend gaming. I wish Warcraft had come out while we were still in school. But that’s the only time I really feel nostalgic. I really enjoy being a husband and owning my own home. I can now tell solicitors to get off my property! Aight, thanks for dropping by, and have a good afternoon.
